When someone complains about the health reform and rants on about "socialism" remind them that our police are paid for by the government, our teachers are paid for by the government, our roads are paid for by the government, ad nauseam.  A reply of, "oh, that's different" shows ignorance.  If the government pays for one thing it is socialism.  End of discussion. U.S. citizens want things done, but don't want to pay the required fees to get them~TAXES!!!

"We have now just enshrined the core principle that everybody should have some basic security when it comes to their health," said Pres. Obama.  Regardless of what you think of the man, or the bill, this sentence and the overhaul attempt is a landmark achievement as it states the long overdue fact (that much of the world already abides by) that the U.S. must recognize basic human rights.  The states and local governments, left to their own devices, have left anyone without money or a job that includes health insurance to suffer and die.  The most basic of human rights is the right to use healthcare when it is available.  Today's overhaul is far from perfect, but it is a step in the right direction, and possibly more importantly it shows how the impossible (remember Pres. Clinton's attempts) can become reality.  Bravo!

It has been far too long since I have blogged here...in part because of the busyness that has ensued surrounding my writing.  My novel Homeland Security:  the Drunken Fallacies of a Federal Agent has made it to the second round of the Amazon.com Breakthrough Novel Award contest!  Life continues with a lot of hard work, intricate writing and numerous readings.
